Description
We are Systematix and we are looking for a Senior Power BI + SQL/Python Data Migration Specialist to support a 6-month+ contract engagement for one of our key clients in the GTA. This role is a full-time contract, remote-friendly, with on-site presence preferred during the initial onboarding phase to reduce the learning curve. Candidates across Canada will be considered, to work Eastern Time Zone hours.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Our client is undergoing a major ERP transition from a legacy MS SQL–based system to a new TECSYS (PostgreSQL 16.8) ERP platform. This project includes data migration from the old ERP to the new environment, as well as the rebuild and transfer of custom reports. Several customizations exist within the legacy ERP, and these are well documented, providing a strong reference point (“lighthouse”) for the migration effort.
As the Senior Power BI + SQL/Python Data Migration Specialist, you will play a critical role in developing Power BI semantic models and dashboards, extracting and transforming ERP data, building Python-based ETL workflows, and ensuring data accuracy across systems. You will collaborate closely with the client’s IT and business teams to deliver a seamless migration and reporting modernization effort.
This role is ideal for a senior-level BI/Data Engineering consultant who is strong in semantic modeling, data engineering, and ERP data structures, and who can operate independently in a fast-moving environment.
ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design and develop Power BI semantic models, paginated reports, and interactive dashboards
• Build complex DAX and MDX calculations to support reporting requirements
• Optimize existing BI assets and create new reports based on both semantic models and SQL queries
• Perform advanced SQL development across MS SQL Server 2019 (legacy ERP) and PostgreSQL 16.8 (new ERP)
• Lead the extract, transform, and load (ETL) effort—approximately 90% of SQL work involves extracting from the old ERP and loading into the new TECSYS environment
• Develop Python-based data pipelines to automate transformation, validation, and migration processes
• Validate data integrity, reconcile differences, and support cutover activities
• Work closely with business and technical users to understand the ERP data structures, reporting needs, and customizations
• Assist in transferring and rebuilding custom ERP reports based on legacy documentation
• Troubleshoot and resolve data migration issues, performance bottlenecks, and report logic discrepancies
• Contribute to project planning, migration rehearsals, and deployment support
• Ensure best practices in data governance, quality, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle
ABOUT THE REQUIREMENTS
• 5–10+ years of experience in BI development, data engineering, or ERP data migration
• Expert-level skills in Power BI, including semantic model development, paginated reports, and interactive dashboards
• Advanced proficiency in DAX, MDX, Power Query, and model optimization
• Strong SQL skills in both MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including stored procedures, performance tuning, and complex transformations
• Hands-on experience with Python for ETL, data manipulation, automation, and migration scripting
• Prior experience working with ERP systems, including understanding of master data, transactional data, and reporting structures
• Proven background in ERP data migration, preferably between legacy and modern platforms
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple migration workloads, and collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail
• Nice to Have: Experience with TECSYS Elite, PFE, or similar supply-chain or warehouse ERP systems
• Nice to Have: Experience migrating or rebuilding custom reports from older ERP platforms
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a 6-month contract position, full-time (40 hours/week), with potential for extension based on performance and project needs. The work is largely remote; however, the client prefers on-site presence during the initial onboarding period to support a faster ramp-up. Candidates across Canada are welcome, provided they can travel on-site as required.
