Primary Focus
The Jr Project Manager supports the Project Manager/Senior Estimator in a broad range of project administration, coordination, and pre-construction planning tasks. This role is instrumental in ensuring projects are well-organized, cost-effective, and executed safely and efficiently from concept to closeout. The Jr Project Manager works collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to define project scope, prepare estimates, coordinate documentation, and ensure compliance with all quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Project Administration
- Manage project budgets and tracks expenditure
- Prepare documentation for the pre-construction phase, including cost analyses, risk assessments, execution plans and schedules
- Communicate project plans, actions, and issues to key stakeholders
- Draft and issue accurate contracts and purchase orders
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement across project workflows
Project Coordination
- Assist in project planning, scheduling, and tracking overall progress
- Coordinate with subcontractors to align with project timelines
- Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to define project
- scope and objectives
- Coordinate with design teams to ensure constructability and resolve potential issues early
- Prepare and process RFI’s and Change Orders
- Assist in the development and refinement of project strategies, including value engineering and innovative approaches
- Support procurement: assist in the selection of subcontractors and suppliers, contract negotiations, and materials procurement
- Maintain high standards of quality and safety throughout the project lifecycle
- Compile project as-builts, deficiency lists, and close-out documentation
Estimating and Technical Support
- Support the preparation of accurate cost estimates and competitive bids
- Assist with quantity takeoffs and clarification of project scope and details
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred)
- Certificate or diploma in Project Management or Construction Management
- Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in pre-construction or estimating within the civil construction industry
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and materials
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Proficiency in estimating software and project management tools
- Familiarity with Buildertrend or equivalent project management software (an asset)
- Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams, manage multiple priorities, and work under tight deadlines
- Solid knowledge of construction operations and equipment
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential materials with discretion
