IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY

Interim Director, Patient Information and Privacy Officer

Reports To: Vice President Finance

Duration: 6 months

Location: GTA North, Ontario (Remote)

A prominent community hospital is seeking a seasoned leader to guide them through a period of transition. In this interim role, the successful candidate will provide oversight for Patient Registration, Health Records, Transcription, and IT Services. Working closely with senior leadership, the position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of efficient, high-quality services and fostering ongoing improvements in processes. Core duties include strategic departmental management, adherence to privacy legislation such as PHIPA and FIPPA, and ensuring the reliability of information used for organizational decision-making.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead and manage teams responsible for patient registration, health records, IT, and related administrative functions, ensuring seamless operations and service excellence.
  • Safeguard the privacy and security of all patient health information, upholding strict confidentiality standards throughout the organization.
  • Oversee the accuracy and reliability of patient records, guiding the transition to digital health information systems.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data reporting to meet the requirements of regulatory authorities and support organizational decision-making.
  • Develop strategies for managing healthcare data and information resources to align with the hospital’s objectives.
  • Champion initiatives to enhance the quality and efficiency of both clinical and administrative processes.
  • Serve as the organization’s Privacy Officer, ensuring compliance with all relevant privacy laws and internal policies.
  • Support leadership in responding to information requests under applicable freedom of information regulations.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, overseeing both operational and capital expenditures.
  • Establish and enforce departmental policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with organizational, health, and safety standards.

Competencies and Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized Health Information Management Program.
  • Certified Health Information Management Professional with CHIMA and member in good standing an asset Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with professional, legislated and other requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years’ hands-on management experience in a hospital setting where you have demonstrated strength in managing the interpersonal and fiscal challenges of a highly demanding setting.
  • An energetic and proactive systems and critical thinker with strong and effective problem-solving, communication, relationship management, change management, project management, organizational and team-building skills.
  • Established reputation as a consultative, collaborative, coaching and/or mentoring style of leadership.
  • Skilled and influential communicator, both verbal and written.
  • Expert in abstracting systems, patient information systems, database management and Microsoft applications and Business Intelligence tools.
  • Strong report writing skills using query tools and ability to identify and assess new technology and tools to optimize the team and organizational performance.
  • Advanced performance monitoring, reporting and planning skills.
  • Knowledge of privacy and related legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an exciting, fast paced, dynamic environment.
