Description
This is an urgent contract opportunity with a global financial services organization specializing in complex commercial and specialty insurance risks. The team is seeking an experienced Underwriter to support a renewal-focused portfolio within professional and specialty lines, including Errors & Omissions and related liability products.
In this role, you will work closely with brokers and internal underwriting partners to manage renewals, assess risk, and support profitable portfolio performance. You will join a collaborative, fast-paced team environment where analytical judgment, strong communication, and adaptability are valued. This role is well-suited to underwriters who enjoy hands-on work, direct broker interaction, and exposure to specialty risks within a structured but flexible hybrid model.

Your Responsibilities
- You’ll manage and support a renewal-focused underwriting portfolio, reviewing risk details, pricing, and coverage terms in line with underwriting guidelines.
- In this role, you’ll collaborate directly with brokers to gather information, respond to inquiries, and support renewal negotiations.
- You’ll assess commercial and specialty risks using analytical judgment, identifying exposures and recommending appropriate terms.
- You’ll contribute to peer review discussions and work closely with underwriting colleagues to ensure consistency and quality.
- You’ll support portfolio performance through accurate documentation, adherence to timelines, and sound underwriting practices.
Skills and Qualifications
- 3+ years of commercial or specialty underwriting experience, with exposure to professional liability, E&O, or similar specialty lines considered an asset.
- Experience working with national brokerages is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risks and apply underwriting judgment.
- Clear, professional communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
- Comfort working in a contract role with an on-site (4 days/week) presence in downtown Toronto.
