Esḵéḵxwi7ch tl’a Sp’áḵw’us Place is a 27-unit development that delivers affordable homes with some support to ensure long-term stability and wellness. These homes are exclusively for Squamish Nation Members and priority is given to vulnerable women and their children experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The second priority is for families, elders, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ2SIA+ who are also homeless or at risk of homelessness.
General Purpose
Reporting to the Manager of Building Services, the Building Maintenance staff are responsible for maintaining the buildings to a high level of cleanliness and good repair and ensuring that tenants experience quiet enjoyment of their homes. This position requires a mix of maintenance, janitorial, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
This position also requires travel to other properties in the Squamish / Brackendale area that are managed by Hiy̓ám̓ Housing, including the Squamish 10-Plex, 13-Plex and Tantalus Manor.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Ensure that all interior common areas of the buildings are kept clean and tidy and, that the
the exterior of the buildings is kept clean, and the grounds are maintained and litter-free.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on building components and equipment in all common areas and units.
- Maintain required building supplies and materials.
- Work with the Property Management team to perform move-in and move-out inspections of unit turnovers, documenting as required by the property guidelines and according to Hiyám̓ Housing policies.
- Utilize staff and/or external contractors to promptly prepare vacant units for occupancy according to standards of maintenance policies and procedures.
- Inputs tenant information and maintenance activities into property management software.
- Works cooperatively with the Property Management team to identify and de-escalate conflicts that arise within the tenant population and works towards creating an environment of trust while maintaining healthy boundaries.
- Other related duties as directed by the Manager of Building Services.
- Maintains a schedule of attendance per-building.
- Travel to other properties managed by Hiyám̓ Housing in the Squamish/Brackendale area daily to ensure that grounds are tidy and identify any maintenance issues.
Education and Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in residential buildings or in other related maintenance positions.
- Experience working with First Nations.
- Knowledge of the BC Residential Tenancy Act.
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
- WHIMIS certificate is required.
- Computer and software knowledge is required (Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook)
- Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence with clean abstract and own vehicle is required.
- Salary
- Full-time $55,000 to $58,000 Annually
