Our client in the healthcare sector is a newly established not-for-profit organization dedicated to integrating healthcare services around the needs of individuals in Mississauga and West Toronto. The organization currently operates two state-of-the-art long-term care (LTC) homes and a community hub in West Mississauga. Together, these homes offer 632 beds and form part of a broader strategy to deliver innovative, inclusive programs and modern models of care. The organization is committed to building strong partnerships, fostering a learning-oriented healthcare environment, and providing exceptional services across the aging continuum.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Management:

  • Operate at a strategic level by monitoring, assessing, interpreting, and reporting on the fiscal performance of our client in the healthcare sector.
  • Evaluate resource utilization, spending patterns, and key performance indicators to ensure financial targets are achieved.
  • Recommend corrective measures to the Executive Team when risks, variances, or budget pressures are identified.
  • Prepare multi-year operating plans, business plans, annual budgets, and financial forecasts.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department leaders, developing detailed budgets for staffing, supplies, facilities, and operational needs.
  • Develop briefing notes and presentation materials for key committees, including Finance & Audit (F&A) and Risk & Quality (R&Q).
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting:

  • Monitor and analyze variances between actual results and budgeted performance, identifying cost drivers and improvement opportunities.
  • Build and maintain advanced financial models, including sensitivity and scenario analyses.
  • Analyze trends in resident demographics, healthcare costs, government reimbursements, and funding programs.
  • Prepare accurate and timely forecasts, highlighting assumptions, risks, and potential opportunities.
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly management reports to senior leadership and the Board, showcasing KPIs and recommending actions to maintain financial sustainability.
  • Operational & Performance Analysis:

  • Conduct detailed assessment of operational performance, expenditures, working capital, cash flow, and key performance indicators.
  • Identify business opportunities, revenue enhancement strategies, and funding proposals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate strategic initiatives and assess financial implications of new operational plans.
  • Work with department directors to optimize resource allocation and maintain high-quality resident care.
  • Partner with operational teams to implement and monitor cost control measures without compromising service delivery.
  • Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks while maximizing opportunities for financial improvement.
  • Support the development of business cases and analytical reports for departmental and organizational initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including auditors, government agencies, and financial institutions.
  • Stay current with long-term care funding frameworks and provincial regulations; maintain funding summaries to support strategic decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with funding requirements and prepare reports for government audits and inspections.
  • Communicate financial insights, trends, and recommendations clearly to non-financial audiences.
  • Maintain adherence to all applicable healthcare finance regulations, standards, and policies.
  • Participate in special projects and other financial assignments as needed.
  • Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive financial analysis experience within the healthcare or long-term care sector. CPA designation preferred or in progress.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and advanced financial modeling.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including modeling and analytics.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with enterprise financial and budgeting systems; knowledge of Adaptive, Microsoft Business 365, and PeopleSoft is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, accounting standards, and industry best practices.
