About the Role
Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for leading the sanitation team and coordinating all sanitation activities to ensure full compliance with CFIA, GB and FDA regulations, cGMPs, SQF, HACCP, and CRM’s COPs, SOPs, and SSOPs.
The Sanitation Supervisor ensures that the plant is consistently maintained in a clean and hygienic condition, safe to produce infant formula, and audit-ready at all times.
This role requires close cross-functional collaboration with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and EHS to support food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Supervise and direct daily sanitation activities across production areas with a focus on the High Hygiene Zone and spray dryer.
2. Provide training and oversight for sanitation activities and ensure sanitation staff follow GMP, hygiene, PPE, chemical handling, and safety procedures.
3. Recommend and implement the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) for the entire plant, ensuring all daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cleaning activities are executed as scheduled.
4. Review, verify, and sign off sanitation logs, CIP records, MSS completion records
4. to confirm compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
5. Sanitize parts through the chlorine dioxide chamber, in accordance with procedures.
6. Ensure cleaning methods are appropriate for dry processing environments to minimize microbiological risk.
7. Verify CIP activities by reviewing sanitation and CIP records, daily review of 3DT STAR or equivalent systems to ensure all CIP’s compliance with CRM’s CIP matrix.
8. Support internal audits, third-party audits, and FDA/CFIA inspections, specifically related to sanitation, MSS execution, and CIP compliance.
9. Supervise and coach sanitation personnel to ensure sanitation tasks are performed correctly and consistently.
10. Approve updates and revisions to the MSS in collaboration with Quality and Operations.
11. Ensure all sanitation activities are compliant with FDA, CFIA, GB, OSHA, FSMA, and site food safety standards.
12. Partner with QA to maintain HACCP and sanitation preventive controls.
13. Support internal and external audits; take corrective action on sanitation-related findings.
14. Enforce safe chemical handling, labeling, and storage policies for sanitation team.
Job Requirements
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have strong English language skills. The ability to read and understand written English and communicate in English both spoken and in writing is a requirement of the job.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Food Engineering, or related discipline, OR equivalent experience in food manufacturing.
Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in Sanitation in a CFIA, Health Canada, or FDA-regulated environment. Leadership experience preferred.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and Food safety.
- Six Sigma or Lean certification is considered as an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop teams, drive results, and foster a positive work culture.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills and ability to work with complex systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, MES/ERP systems.
Working Conditions
· The standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Most of the work occurs during regular weekday office hours. However, as an international company with continuous 24-7 operations, hours of work involved may vary to accommodate business needs. Flexible hours are required and may include evening and week-end hours from time to time.
