About the Company

Our client, a highly regarded mid-sized law firm is seeking a Commercial Litigation Legal Assistant to join their team.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a central point of organization for a busy commercial litigation practice, coordinating and monitoring multiple deadlines across files.
  • Open and maintain client files, manage calendars and bring-forwards, and schedule discoveries, mediations, and court attendances.
  • Prepare, revise, proofread, and edit litigation documents with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Perform dictation typing and revise pleadings, correspondence, motion materials, and other court documents.
  • Prepare standard form correspondence to clients and external parties.
  • Edit template documents and work with macros within Microsoft Office.
  • Prepare accounts, pre-bills, and assist with accounting-related tasks.
  • Electronically file documents with the courts and coordinate service through external process servers.
  • Assist with travel arrangements, meeting coordination, and conference calls.
  • Compile, serve, and file affidavits, motion records, appeal records, and other materials in compliance with the Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Delegate tasks to assistants, clerks, and junior team members as appropriate and track project deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the litigation team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a litigation legal assistant in a law firm environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines in a high-volume practice.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience editing templates and using document macros.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience or strong interest in construction litigation is considered a significant asset.
  • Experience with union-side or complex commercial litigation is an asset.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.

Compensation

  • Competitive salary range of $75,000–$80,000, commensurate with experience.
