Lakeshore Talent is partnering with a growing organization to hire an experienced Payroll Supervisor/Manager to lead North American payroll operations in the US and Canada, in a fast-paced environment. Position Overview
The Corporate Payroll Supervisor/Manager will oversee end-to-end payroll operations across Canada and the U.S., ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuous process improvement. This role manages day-to-day payroll execution while serving as a key payroll subject matter expert and strategic partner to HR, Finance, and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and audit bi-weekly and supplemental payrolls accurately and on time
- Oversee payroll transactions, approvals, exemptions, and adjustments
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries, reconciliations, and system updates
- Partner with HR to ensure timely processing of new hires, terminations, and payroll changes
- Audit payroll data to confirm accuracy of accounts, taxes, payment dates, and controls
- Develop and maintain payroll quality controls and compliance processes
- Prepare monthly, annual, and ad hoc payroll reports
- Lead payroll year-end activities and reconciliations (EHT, WSIB, T4, T4A, W2, etc.)
- Manage relationships with third-party tax providers for filings, amended returns, and jurisdictional compliance
- Prepare and reconcile CRA and IRS statements, deductions, and tax slips
- Reconcile payroll-related GL accounts, including taxes, benefits, and liabilities
- Collaborate with Finance, HR, Internal Audit, and cross-functional partners on system and process improvements
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation and regulatory changes
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of Records of Employment (ROEs) and respond to government inquiries
- Support U.S. and Canadian benefits administration, vendor payments, and reconciliations
- Assist with external payroll compliance audits and year-end reporting
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field
- 10+ years of full-cycle payroll experience, including 3+ years in payroll leadership
- Bilingual in French(preferred) and English(required)
- Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation, taxation, and labor standards
- Proven experience managing payroll year-end and compliance reporting
- High level of discretion when handling sensitive employee data
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to meet critical deadlines
Certifications
- PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) – required
- CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) – strongly preferred
- Canadian National Payroll Institute standards preferred
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Extensive experience with Dayforce payroll systems
- Strong data entry, reconciliation, and reporting capabilities
