Our client in the software industry, is looking for a Payroll Manager to join their payroll team. The Payroll Manager will join the team to own payroll processing. We are seeking an adaptable candidate who is eager to work in a fast-paced, innovative, high-growth environment. This team member will be an integral point person and provide support for all employees and its business units and will manage a growing team as well.
Responsibilities of the Payroll Manager is as follows:
Review and process all Canadian and US employee payroll related payments and regulatory remittances
Responsible for payroll related compliance obligations including but not limited to payroll related filings and supporting documentation, such as year-end tax statements, pension, Record of Employment, EHT payments and other government filings and payments
Keep abreast of the payroll processing system and changes in wage/tax laws, and implement changes as appropriate
Recruit, train and manage the performance of the payroll team.
Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability payments, and non-taxable wages
Work with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the benefits and payroll services are delivered at best practice standards
Process new hires, terminations and other employee changes and ensure they are paid accurately and timely.
Partner with HR and Finance team to calculate and process annual merit increases, retroactive payments, bonuses, including share-based components
Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies, including communicating with impacted employees
Support new acquisitions, payroll onboarding and system integrations
Implement process improvement projects in payroll and related areas, including documentation of processes and integration with other systems, including assessing existing payroll processes and recommending improvements
Support the quarterly and annual financial statement audit
Monitoring and analyzing expenses against the benefits budget to help prepare cost forecasts and budgets

Job Requirements:
College or university diploma
Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or equivalent designation
Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S Payroll regulation (hands-on experience)
Preference for candidates with Workday experience (hands-on experience, including trouble shooting and optimization)
Experience with ADP Workforce Now (WFN) and NetSuite an asset
Strong organizational skillsets with excellent attention to detail
Collaborative approach, working effectively with Finance and HR
Effectively communicates (verbal, written and presentation) with internal and external stakeholders at all organizational levels
Experience in accounting/reconciliation of payroll liabilities accounts and knowledge of payroll GL
Analytical mindset – ability to translate data into actionable insight
Comfortable working with different time zones in a remote environment
Strong Microsoft Excel is a must
