About the Opportunity

DCG is looking for a full time Senior Estimator based in Surrey, BC. We are looking for a passionate and detail orientated candidate to fill this position.

The Senior Estimator will oversee the preparation of complex and high-value estimates for formwork, bridge, and other civil construction projects. This role requires a deep understanding of construction methodologies, strong leadership skills, and the ability to optimize bid strategies for the company’s long-term success. As a key decision-maker, the Senior Estimator will collaborate closely with senior management, project teams, and clients to ensure accurate, profitable, and competitive bids. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in leading the estimating department, providing direction and oversight to junior and mid-level estimators.
  • Develop and refine estimating strategies and processes to align with the company’s business objectives and market positioning.
  • Assist senior management on cost strategies, project feasibility, and risk mitigation.
  • Mentor and train estimators to ensure consistent quality in estimates and foster talent development.
  • Grow and maintain strategic partnerships with key accounts.
  • Assist in identifying and onboarding the right individuals for the estimating team, ensuring team members’ skills and roles align with departmental goals.
  • Contribute to the performance review processes by providing input on team members’ strengths, areas for improvement, and professional development opportunities.
  • Evaluate high-value and complex project opportunities, assessing project scope, cost, schedule, risk factors, and partnership opportunities.
  • Lead bid/no-bid discussions with senior management, providing in-depth analysis of project viability and profitability.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients, acting as a liaison to understand their needs and tailor bids accordingly.
  • Assign new bid opportunities to team members according to work load, strengths, and career ambitions.
  • Prepare and review highly detailed and accurate cost estimates for large-scale formwork, civil, and bridge construction projects.
  • Lead in the interpretation and analysis of project drawings, specifications, contract documents, and client requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment with the company’s financial objectives.
  • Lead pre-bid meetings and support post-bid negotiations with clients, project managers, and subcontractors to ensure competitive and favorable outcomes.
  • Provide final oversight on all bids submitted by the estimating team, ensuring they meet the highest standards of accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with construction staff to confirm construction methodology.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and reliable project execution.
  • Continuously evaluate and expand the database of trusted suppliers and subcontractors to meet the evolving needs of projects.
  • Lead estimating handover meetings to the Project Management team.
  • Provide ongoing support to project teams during pre-construction and execution, particularly in handling change orders and unforeseen cost impacts.
  • Lead post-bid debriefs to review project outcomes and adjust future estimating strategies as necessary.
  • Leverage Salesforce to track and report key performance indicators (KPIs)

About You

To qualify, you will need the following:

  • Post secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in construction estimating, particularly in formwork and bridge construction.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction methodologies, cost drivers, and risk management in civil and bridge construction.
  • Proficiency in estimation software and tools (Microsoft Excel, Planswift, Salesforce, etc.).
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring junior estimators.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess project risks and cost implications.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with experience in high-value client and subcontractor negotiations.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-value projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
