Position Reporting To – Credit & Collections Manager
Summary/Objective
The Senior Credit Analyst supports the Credit & Collections Manager in managing customer credit risk, optimizing cash flow, and ensuring timely collections across North American operations. This role is responsible for evaluating customer creditworthiness, managing customer credit exposure, maintaining accurate credit and accounts receivable data, monitoring collection performance, and supporting the timely resolution of outstanding balances.
The position conducts advanced credit analysis for strategic and higher-risk accounts, supports dispute resolution and collection activities, and contributes to the continuous improvement of credit, collections, and accounts receivable processes. The role plays a key part in balancing business growth with risk mitigation by partnering closely with Sales, Finance, Customer Service, and Operations leadership teams across North America.
Essential Functions
Credit Risk Assessment & Account Management
- Analyze customer financial statements, credit reports, trade references, and payment history to assess creditworthiness.
- Recommend credit limits, terms, and risk classifications in line with company policy.
- Review and update existing customer credit files on a regular basis.
- Support onboarding of new customers through credit approval processes.
- Develop customer risk and performance assessments through analysis of financial statements, payment trends, business operations, and industry benchmarking.
- Provide proactive recommendations regarding credit exposure, credit limit adjustments, account growth opportunities, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Analyze customer operational and financial performance to provide meaningful credit insights and business recommendations to Finance, Sales, and leadership teams.
Reporting, Analytics & Operational Oversight
- Prepare and analyze AR aging, customer exposure, bad debt trends, and collection performance reports.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through data analysis and provide actionable recommendations to management.
- Support forecasting activities related to cash collections and bad debt reserves.
- Ensure accurate customer master data and credit records within ERP systems.
Collections Leadership & Escalation Support
- Lead collection efforts for complex, escalated, or high-balance accounts.
- Partner closely with Sales, Customer Service, Logistics, and Finance teams to resolve disputes impacting collections.
- Support negotiation of payment plans, account resolutions, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Assist the Credit & Collections Manager in prioritizing collection activities and monitoring team performance.
Cross-Functional Business Partnership
- Build strong working relationships with Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and Finance teams to support business growth while maintaining appropriate risk controls.
- Provide recommendations and risk assessments to support business decisions while balancing revenue growth and financial risk mitigation.
- Participate in customer meetings when necessary to support account resolution or credit discussions.
Process Improvement & Compliance
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to credit, collections, and AR workflows.
- Assist in developing standardized procedures, controls, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and company credit policies.
- Participate in internal and external audit support activities.
- Support departmental projects, workflow coordination, and operational priorities.
Administrative & Reporting Support
- Maintain organized credit files and documentation.
- Support ad hoc analysis and reporting requests from leadership.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities related to AR.
- All other duties as assigned
Travel
- Ability to travel occasionally within North America (10–20%)
Education/Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in credit analysis, accounts receivable, or collections
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or B2B environments preferred
- Strong proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Navision, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
- Experience with credit reporting tools (e.g., D&B, Equifax)
- Mandarin language skills are considered an asset
