Salary: $40,000 – $47,000

Position function: Reporting to the Senior Quality Control Specialist – Warehouse of Caldic Canada Inc., the individual will be responsible to collect and analyze retain samples when applicable and to validate the related documentation of incoming resale/raw materials. This individual will also be responsible for assisting the Shipping/Receiving team with troubleshooting.

Scope: Quality Technician will be involved with the processing of incoming resale/raw materials and validating the product prior to being released for work orders to ship to customers and regional locations. The individual will collect & test retains samples, verify paperwork and validate the related certificates of analyses. This individual will investigate all internal & external raw material non-conformances and work closely with Replenishment, Procurement and Caldic’s suppliers to resolve all such non-conformances. This position will also work closely with Shipping/Receiving and Inventory as a primary resource for warehouse troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain retain samples, conduct quality testing on incoming raw materials such as oils, vitamins, mineral, etc.; responsible for resale/raw material sampling for materials in packaging up to 1000kg
  • Verify all incoming paperwork to ensure product meets specification; review limits, verify lot numbers, troubleshoot any issues or discrepancies such as Letter of Guarantee for a COA that is out of specifications
  • Responsible for reviewing of incoming CofAs and updating the batch disposition/stock status of the raw materials
  • Assist warehouse and distribution with troubleshooting relating to quality and specification related issues; includes inspecting trailers, identifying products missing supplier labels, inspecting incoming damages and inspecting returned totes for insect activity.
  • Coordinate Returned Material Authorization (RMA) when received; Determine what product can be used for re-work, which may require internal quality testing
  • Assist in Shelf Life Extension request
  • Manage supplier related non-conformance issues when they occur at time of receiving; communicate directly with supplier to confirm return of product, credit or extension of shelf life if applicable
  • Manage incoming damages process; collect all related product information, quantities and pictures of damages to resolve the issue, if product is determined to be suitable for re-work – update status and include description in the system
  • Actively contribute to ongoing projects to ensure outstanding quality standards are achieved and effective tracking of incoming materials.
  • Responsible for following Food Safety and Quality requirements as per Prerequisite programs, HACCP plans, CCP monitoring and SQF code.

Knowledge / Skills & Experiences

  • Science Degree or Diploma is required (Food Science an asset)
  • Working knowledge of HACCP, Food Safety and Food Plant GMP’
  • 1-2 years of food manufacturing experience required
  • A solid background / experience in food science with strong organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to follow through
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office
