THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a mid-level associate to join their Bankruptcy, Insolvency, and Restructuring Group in Toronto. The successful candidate will also advise clients on a wide range of insolvency and restructuring matters, including:
- Act on behalf of companies in financial distress across both formal and informal restructuring processes, including recapitalizations, reorganizations, workouts, and negotiated creditor settlements.
- Provide strategic advice and legal analysis on complex insolvency and restructuring issues, supported by in-depth research into relevant legislation and case law.
- Manage and support sophisticated commercial restructuring and insolvency matters from initial assessment through to implementation and completion.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate key restructuring documentation and court materials, including plans of arrangement, forbearance agreements, debtor-in-possession financing documents, motions, and affidavits.
- Advise on restructuring and insolvency options under applicable frameworks, including the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA), the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA), and related legislation.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Member in good standing of the Ontario Bar
- Minimum 4-7 years of insolvency and restructuring experience
- Experience acting for debtor-side clients is considered an asset
