WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS:
The Senior Underwriter is responsible for assessing and pricing Property & Casualty risks, quoting and binding new and renewal business, and making underwriting decisions regarding coverage and premiums. This role analyzes risk-related information from various sources to support decision-making and provides mentorship and guidance to Intermediate and Junior Underwriters.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
•Evaluate, price, and underwrite new and renewal Property & Casualty business while balancing profitability and client needs.
•Analyze complex risks and make informed underwriting decisions regarding coverage, pricing, terms, and conditions.
•Review and assess insurance applications to deliver timely, competitive, and customized solutions.
•Exercise underwriting authority to approve, bind, and manage policies within established guidelines.
•Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders, serving as a trusted underwriting partner.
•Stay current on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and underwriting excellence.
•Contribute to portfolio growth and profitability through sound risk selection and management.
•Maintain accurate underwriting records and client information within company systems.
•Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and support to Intermediate and Junior Underwriters, helping develop the next generation of underwriting talent.
•Participate in policy wording reviews and contribute to the enhancement of underwriting products and coverage offerings.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive operational efficiency and deliver exceptional service.
•Take on special projects and additional responsibilities that support business objectives and professional growth.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:
•Minimum 10 years of Property & Casualty insurance experience.
•Broker Level 2 license (or equivalent provincial licensing requirements) in applicable provinces.
•CIP designation or progress toward completion is considered an asset.
•Strong knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance products, underwriting principles, and industry regulations.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues.
•Proficiency with insurance management systems, database applications, and Microsoft Office programs.
•Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
•Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to mentor, support, and provide guidance to colleagues.
•Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
•Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
•A positive attitude and enthusiasm for continuous learning, challenges, and new initiatives.
