Role Overview

The Director of Finance will step into a leadership role where they will shape the financial direction of a growing mission-driven organization with global impact. Working closely with the CEO and Board, the Director will drive strategy, ensure financial sustainability, and connect funding to meaningful programme outcomes across multiple countries. The role is ideal for someone who wants to drive decisions, support growth, and play a critical role in scaling impact internationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long‑term financial planning.
  • Provide forward‑looking insights to guide strategic decisions.
  • Align funding, programme delivery, and organisational sustainability.
  • Oversee accounting, reporting, and financial performance.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and decision‑ready financial insights.
  • Lead and develop the finance function (Canada + global coordination).
  • Ensure CRA compliance (T3010, receipting) and strong internal controls; manage financial risks (cash flow, FX, compliance).
  • Lead audit process and support Board/FAR Committee reporting.
  • Manage cash flow, reserves, and financial sustainability.
  • Oversee use of restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Maintain strong banking and financial management practices.
  • Partner with fundraising and programme teams to align budgets and delivery.
  • Drive financial accountability and decision‑making across the organisation.

Requirements

  • CPA (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience (non‑profit, INGO, or multi‑country environment preferred).
  • Strong experience in financial planning & analysis.
  • Audit & internal controls.
  • CRA charity compliance (T3010, receipting, etc.).
  • Experience with grant/fund accounting.
  • Donor reporting.
  • Cross‑border financial operations.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders, Boards, and global teams.
  • Calgary based (Hybrid); occasional international travel.
