The opportunity
We currently have an excellent career opportunity for a Tax Litigation Associate. Your key responsibilities
- Assist clients in responding to federal and provincial audits and strategically advise on the various options and steps in resolving tax disputes.
- Prepare notices of objection and written representations to the federal and provincial tax authorities.
- Assist with litigation in resolving tax disputes, including court appeals, judicial review applications, and other administrative processes such as voluntary disclosures, taxpayer relief applications, ruling requests, and remission orders.
- Assist with the preparation of legal opinions with respect to the tax consequences of transactions and performing post‑transaction audits for tax efficacy and litigation risk.
Skills and attributes for success
- The ideal candidate will have 2+ years’ experience with income tax, sales tax, and other taxes.
- Prior tax litigation experience is an asset.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have strong foundational knowledge of Canada’s income tax, sales tax, or other Canadian tax systems.
- The candidate should be a member in good standing of the Law Society of their province of residence.
- Proficiency in English and French.
