Job Overview
Save‑On‑Foods is the largest grocery retail company in Western Canada, with 185 stores and nearly 22,000 team members. We are looking for a Department Manager for the Centre of Store at the Jagare location in Edmonton, AB. This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week). Open availability is required.
Responsibilities
- Lead the department, coach, mentor, and support a positive team environment focused on “Always Customer First” service.
- Ensure operational excellence through customer experience, health and safety, food safety, and merchandising.
- Engage and retain team members through training, rewards/recognition, and succession planning.
- Support team‑member initiatives such as performance management, collective‑agreement administration, and conflict resolution.
- Communicate key messages and business objectives to the department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Review and analyze income statements, identify opportunities to improve performance, and present KPIs to the management team.
- Analyze business/HR metrics, dashboards, and department financial reports.
- Assist the management team with implementing strategies to grow sales and customer loyalty.
- Lead inventory counts and period‑end activities and resolve related issues.
- Perform all job duties as needed, including lifting up to 50lb, standing for extended periods, and working in hot/cold environments.
Qualifications & Experience
- 1–3years of retail experience; leadership experience is an asset.
- Food‑Safe certification.
- Post‑secondary education in a business‑related field is an asset.
- Experience/knowledge in: sales target achievement, merchandising plans, in‑store displays, human‑resources functions (training, development, coaching, mentoring), employee relations, collective‑agreement knowledge (if applicable), scheduling, and computer applications.
