Senior Data Scientist, Data & AI Advocacy
Who we are:
Geotab ® is a global leader in IoT and connected transportation and certified “Great Place to Work™.” We are a company of diverse and talented individuals who work together to help businesses grow and succeed, and increase the safety and sustainability of our communities.
Geotab is advancing security, connecting commercial vehicles to the internet and providing web-based analytics to help customers better manage their fleets. Geotab’s open platform and Geotab Marketplace ®, offering hundreds of third‑party solution options, allows both small and large businesses to automate operations by integrating vehicle data with their other data assets. Processing billions of data points a day, Geotab leverages data analytics and machine learning to improve productivity, optimize fleets through the reduction of fuel consumption, enhance driver safety and achieve strong compliance to regulatory changes.
Who you are:
We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Senior Data Scientist who will lead data storytelling initiatives that establish Geotab as the definitive voice in commercial transportation and fleet intelligence. If you love technology, and are keen to join an industry leader — we would love to hear from you!
What you’ll do:
As a Senior Data Scientist your key area of responsibility will be producing timely, data‑driven stories and analyses that establish Geotab as a leader in commercial transportation insights. You will be responsible for developing both rapid‑response insights — delivered within 24–48 hours of a breaking news event — and longer‑form analyses, including supply chain indices and fleet outcome reports for media, partners, and customers. You will need to work closely with Strategic Communications, PR, Altitude, and cross‑functional teams including Product Analytics and Digital Marketing.
To be successful in this role you will be a naturally curious analyst who asks intelligent questions of the data, connects findings to a larger business narrative, and seeks domain expert validation to ensure accuracy. In addition, the successful candidate will have deep expertise in SQL and Python, the ability to integrate and validate insights from multiple connected data sources, and a proven track record of translating complex analyses into compelling stories for non‑technical audiences.
How you’ll make an impact:
- Implement new statistical or mathematical methodologies for specific models of data analysis.
- Provide expert project leadership as a SME: guidance to team members and participate in cross‑departmental projects establishing Geotab as a leader in data science.
- Create algorithms and predictive models to extract information required to solve complex business problems.
- Conduct causality experiments by applying A/B experiments or epidemiological approaches to identify the root issues of an observed result.
- Identify new, complex queries from Big Data infrastructure from data warehousing databases (i.e., Google BigQuery) to add value to the organization.
- Use Python (including Jupyter Notebooks) and SQL to develop analyses and data‑driven insights.
- Collaborate with internal technical teams and external stakeholders — including Strategic Communications, PR, and Altitude — to gather requirements and validate insights.
- Responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards to drive key business decisions, and translate complex data into compelling stories for media, partners, and customers.
What you’ll bring to this role:
- 5–8 years of experience as a Data Scientist or in a similar role.
- 5–8 years of experience writing complex SQL queries.
- 5–8 years of experience programming in Python, including Jupyter Notebooks.
- Demonstrated ability to ask intelligent, contextual questions of data — connecting findings to a larger business narrative.
- Experience integrating and validating insights from multiple connected data sources.
- Strong data storytelling and communication skills; ability to translate complex analyses into clear, compelling narratives for non‑technical audiences.
- Experience collaborating cross‑functionally with communications, marketing, or PR teams.
- Knowledge of data management and visualization techniques.
- Solid understanding of statistical analysis and predictive modeling.
- High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong project management skills; able to identify needs, develop effective solutions, and manage projects through to completion.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem‑solve to well‑judged decisions.
- Strong team‑player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in a flat organization.
