Overview
The Director, Academic Planning and Analysis is a highly visible leadership role that sits at the intersection of academic planning, financial strategy, institutional research, and data-driven decision-making. The Director leads the Academic Planning and Analysis team and serves as a trusted adviser to senior leaders across the University. This role reports to the Executive Director, Budget Administration and Institutional Planning.
Responsibilities
- Partner with academic and administrative divisions to support planning, resource management, and informed decision-making.
- Oversee the activity-based budget and the academic budget allocation model; perform detailed analyses of revenues and costs.
- Manage the Provost’s annual academic budget review process and coordinate annual University Fund allocations.
- Provide advice, analysis, and support to senior leaders in academic divisions during planning processes and throughout the year.
- Engage with a broad range of stakeholders and translate complex financial and analytical concepts into meaningful insights to support planning and decision-making.
- Work with provincial funding and policies, including overseeing government operating grants, enrolment funding details, and government reporting; liaise with Government Relations on advocacy.
- Support institutional responses to tuition frameworks, Strategic Mandate Agreements, OSAP and student aid decisions, funded expansions, and emerging legislation and government directives.
- Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making through communication, training, and stakeholder engagement.
Minimum Qualifications
- I. Education
- Undergraduate Degree in Commerce, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics (or equivalent)
- Professional Accounting designation or Master’s degree (or equivalent)
- II. Experience
- Seven to ten years’ related experience in a complex higher education environment at a senior level.
- Solid knowledge of university policies, budgetary and financial procedures, enrolment management, financial aid and research issues.
- Experience collaborating with senior administrators and providing advice and expertise; experience in report writing and delivering presentations.
- Experience negotiating complex financial agreements; experience in team building, training and managing staff.

- Ability to lead multiple complex projects with high energy
- Deep understanding of University organization, policies, and procedures, especially financial and enrolment matters
- Broad network of University and ministry contacts
- Ability to work in ambiguous situations, handle multiple interruptions and conflicting deadlines
- Ability to work under pressure and in conflict situations
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and conceptual thinking
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of AMS systems (FIS, HRIS) and ROSI student system
- Proficiency with MS Office; ability to use Tableau and Power BI
