Description
Founding Product & Operations Associate
About 8/0
We’re the data infrastructure layer connecting employer HR systems to group insurance carriers. Venture-backed. Strong commercial momentum. Small, senior, bilingual team.
The Role
We build and operate an AI-first ETL platform. Most of the team is focused on building it. A separate arm of the business runs the actual customer implementations: onboarding employers and carriers, managing data integrations, solving the operational complexity that comes with connecting two sides of a regulated industry.
Right now, one person sits across both product and operations. That’s the COO. We need a second one.
This role sits at the intersection of product and operations. On the product side, you’ll work directly with engineering to shape what we build: writing specs, pressure-testing features, translating customer pain into roadmap decisions. On the operations side, you’ll own how implementations run: onboarding customers, managing data integration workflows, and resolving the issues that surface when real-world data meets a platform still being built.
This is not a support role. It’s a co-ownership role on the two most critical functions of the business.
What You’ll Own
Product
- Work with the founders and the engineering team to define product requirements and translate them into clear, actionable specs for engineering
- Stay close to customer implementations and feed operational learnings back into the platform roadmap
- Pressure-test new features before they ship; surface gaps between what was built and what the customer actually needs
- Own specific product areas end-to-end as the company scales
Operations and Implementations
- Manage customer onboarding from contract signature through live data flows
- Own the day-to-day execution of data integrations between employer HR systems and insurance carrier platforms
- Triage issues that surface during and after implementation; resolve what you can, escalate cleanly when you can’t
- Build the repeatable processes and internal tooling that make the second implementation faster than the first
Cross-functional
- Maintain business intelligence across the pipeline and operations: the numbers that tell us whether implementations are on track, where we’re losing time, and what to fix next
- Be a credible, composed presence in front of senior customers; you’re not always handing off to a founder
Who You Are
- 2 to 4 years of experience in a role where you owned more than your title suggested. You’ve worked in a small team, operated with little structure, and figured things out without a playbook.
- Management consulting experience in one of the top firms
- Product Management exposure
- Engineering or technical background preferred. A strong business background is equally welcome if you’re genuinely comfortable in technical environments, can read code, and have worked closely with engineering teams.
- Technically capable. You don’t need to ship product code, but you’re at home with LLMs, SQL, REST APIs, JSON, and basic scripting. You reach for automation before you reach for a spreadsheet.
- Customer-facing. You’re polished and credible in front of senior external audiences, you stay calm when something breaks live, and you communicate in writing that’s brief, direct, and free of filler.
How This Grows
The role expands with the company. As we grow, the product and operations functions split into real seats. You’ll have shaped both from the ground up and will have the standing to lead whichever one you want to own. We build the lane around you.
Compensation
Competitive base. Meaningful early equity. Downtown Montréal preferred, hybrid schedule. One of the first operating hires on the team.
