Description
Responsibilities:
About the Role We’re looking for a Senior II FinOps Developer to take ownership of cloud cost strategy and optimization across a large-scale, multi-account AWS environment. This is a step above our standard Senior level — you’ll operate with more autonomy, drive cross-team initiatives independently, and be a go-to technical authority on cost engineering, expected to mentor others and influence architecture decisions with cost as a first-class input.
What You’ll Do
● Own cost allocation, tagging, and chargeback/showback architecture across AWS accounts and Kubernetes workloads, end to end
● Lead automation efforts for cost anomaly detection, budget alerting, and rightsizing — without needing significant oversight
● Drive EKS cost optimization strategy (Karpenter, Graviton adoption, Savings Plans/Reserved Instances) in partnership with infrastructure leads
● Build and maintain dashboards/reporting (Grafana, CUR-based pipelines) giving leadership real-time unit economics visibility
● Independently analyze cost drivers across compute, storage, data pipelines, and SaaS spend, and translate findings into engineering-ready recommendations
● Partner cross-functionally with FinOps, DevOps, and engineering teams to embed cost-awareness into architecture and design reviews
● Mentor junior/mid-level engineers on FinOps tooling, practices, and cost-conscious engineering ● Identify and lead multi-quarter cost optimization initiatives with measurable ROI, presenting outcomes to engineering leadership
What We’re Looking For
● 5+ years in devops/infrastructure engineering, with 2+ years focused on cloud cost and usage optimization and automation or FinOps
● Deep AWS expertise (EC2, EKS, S3, RDS/Aurora, Cost Explorer, CUR)
● Strong scripting/automation skills (Python, Go, or similar) and IaC experience (Terraform)
● Experience with Kubernetes cost tooling (Kubecost, OpenCost) and observability stacks (Grafana, Prometheus)
● Track record of driving cross-team initiatives independently and influencing technical decisions without direct authority
● FinOps Certified Practitioner a plus
