RF Propagation Engineer/RF Propagation Modelling ExpertLocation: Toronto, ONJob duties/accountabilities5G RF Propagation Modelling Expert – Key ResponsibilitiesRF Network Design & PlanningDesign and optimize 5G NR (New Radio) RAN (Radio Access Networks), including macro, micro, and small cell deployments.Develop RF coverage, capacity, and quality plans using industry-standard planning tools such as Atoll, Planet, or iBwave.Propagation Modelling & AnalysisCreate, calibrate, and validate RF propagation models (e.G., COST 231, ITU-R, WINNER II) for a variety of environments (urban, suburban, rural).Use terrain, clutter, and building data along with CW measurement results to enhance model accuracy.CW Data Analysis & ModellingConduct and analyze CW (Continuous Wave) measurement campaigns to characterize the radio environment.Use CW data to calibrate propagation models, identify RF anomalies, and validate predicted vs. actual signal behaviours.Interpret CW data to derive critical RF parameters such as path loss, signal strength, and propagation constants.Simulation & OptimizationRun RF simulations to predict 5G NR performance metrics including RSRP, SINR, and throughput.Leverage drive test data, CW data, and post-processing tools (e.G., TEMS, Nemo, Actix) for model tuning and optimization.Technology IntegrationEvaluate and plan advanced 5G features including Massive MIMO, beamforming, carrier aggregation, and mmWave integration.Assess propagation characteristics across low-, mid-, and high-band 5G spectrum.Capacity Planning & Performance AnalysisConduct KPI-based network performance analysis to support capacity planning and radio optimization.Forecast traffic growth and recommend enhancements to maintain service quality and user experience.Cross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with RF engineers, field teams, and vendors to implement and validate RF designs and CW measurement plans.Act as a subject matter expert for CW testing, propagation behaviour, and RF environment characterization.Documentation & ReportingProduce detailed RF planning and propagation modelling reports, including CW data analysis outcomes.Present model calibration results and RF planning strategies to stakeholders and project managers.Tool Development & AutomationBuild or enhance internal tools/scripts for data analysis, model calibration, and RF planning using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.Regulatory & Standards ComplianceEnsure RF designs adhere to regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.G., 3GPP, FCC, CEPT).Support spectrum planning, licensing, and compliance reporting activities.
