Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking Apprentice, Millwright work out of our mill site near the Athabasca , Alberta area. The successful candidate will be responsible for working alongside a Journeyperson and acquiring the necessary skills and technical training to become a competent Journeyperson. The role involves performing a wide range of mechanical work, installation and maintenance of operating equipment and assembly of machines or components. The role will work from detailed jobs procedures, manufacture’s specifications, blueprints diagrams, engineering drawings and equipment specifications.

Role Responsibilities
- Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation and listening for problems, using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, utilizing callipers, micrometres and other measuring tools.
- Troubleshoot complex machines and systems, adjusting processes to optimize quality and productivity while generating solutions to complex inefficiencies and issues.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain equipment, appliances, apparatus, and components, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Inspect systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance and reliability.
- Ensure all safety mandatory documentation is completed, hazard assessments are preformed including all required learning sign offs. Work always following safety protocols and workspace clear and hazards are controlled.
- Document details of all work completed and entering work request for any follow up work requested.
Role Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be an Indentured 1st year Millwright Apprentice.
- Successfully complete any required program entrance exams.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
- Ability to prioritize, manage time well, multitask and troubleshoot.
- The ability to read and understand complex instructions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge and skill in meeting deadlines with multiple duties and tasks.
- Ability to work under pressure, changing priorities, deadlines, and adapt to change.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) an asset.
Other
- Working conditions include indoors (high temperature) and outdoors (sub-zero temperatures) and physically demanding tasks that often require climbing and lifting or moving heavy items.
- The job may involve standing for long periods.
- There is some risk of injury when working with power tools and heavy equipment.
- Must be able to operate overhead cranes and mobile equipment.
