We are currently seeking an Aviation Regulatory and Compliance Specialist- Aviation Consultant to join our Planning and Advisory Practice team. The position is currently open for our Kitchener office, however alternative office locations may be available for the right candidate.

Following the launch of a dedicated division for Aviation Planning and Advisory Services at Avia NG in 2022, our team continues to grow and with that growth we are finding new opportunities with our clients’ coast-to-coast-to-coast and throughout the Caribbean. We are interested in hiring an Aviation Regulatory and Compliance Specialist- Aviation Consultant that can hit the ground running and deliver on the quality and exceptional value that our clients know us for.
The Aviation Planning and Advisory group focuses on providing planning services for airport and heliport infrastructure projects throughout Canada and the Caribbean. Our services include, but are not limited to, master planning, land use planning, terminal and facility planning, feasibility studies, cost-benefit analysis, airfield capacity evaluation, regulatory compliance audits, and operations advisory work. In addition, our team conducts numerous aeronautical impact assessments, advises on heliport siting and facility requirements, aeronautical zoning regulation, aircraft noise modelling, and site development planning.
What does a typical day look like for an Aviation Regulatory and Compliance Specialist – Aviation Consultant?
Reporting to the Practice Lead for Aviation Planning and Advisory at Avia NG, the position’s prime responsibilities relate to the completing of aeronautical impact assessments, quality assurance audits, regulatory compliance and design conformance reviews, the implementation and review of safety management systems, and the preparation of aerodrome operations manuals, procedural documents, and associated plans.
- The position of Aviation Regulatory and Compliance Specialist will require the individual to work cohesively with others at Avia NG including but not limited to Planners, Specialists, Engineers, Designers, and Project Managers in delivery of services to Avia NG’s clients.
- Contribute to various aviation technical studies and when assigned serve as project coordinator and/or project manager;
- Prepare and deliver aviation training programs related to CARs Part III compliance, TP 312, ICAO Annex 14 and SMS;
- Facilitate, participate in and/or complete Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments for clients throughout Canada and internationally;
- Conduct quality assurance audits in the role of team member or lead auditor;
- Participate in public and stakeholder engagement processes;
- Conduct aeronautical impact assessments;
- Assist in the development and preparation of figures, design drawings, and technical reports;
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current Transport Canada, ICAO, FAA and related standards and recommended practices.
- Enhance knowledge of requirements of reviewing agencies such as NAV CANADA and Transport Canada; and
- Other duties as assigned or required.
This position will require periodic travel within Canada and abroad (approximately 10%-15% of the time). Costs associated with travel to project sites, meals and accommodations are reimbursed.
As your position requires that you operate a motor vehicle, it will be a condition of your employment that you maintain a valid provincial driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract that is acceptable to the Company’s insurers. Failure to do so is deemed to be cause for termination of your employment.
What do we need from you?
Our best fit for this role is an individual who prides themselves as a master of time management and multi-tasking with an eye for detail. They possess excellent communication skills and are able to take initiative independently.
Additional skills and experience we are seeking:
- University degree or advanced College diploma, or Master’s degree in aviation, planning, engineering or architecture.
- Eight plus (8+) years of experience related to heliport planning, design and operations.
- Strong communications and report writing skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data related to the identification of facility and infrastructure requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize/manage multiple project timelines.
- Mature, self-motivated individual possessing effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment and/or independently with minimum supervision.
- Advanced experience with AutoCAD and the MS Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experienced in aviation regulatory compliance, project management, heliport planning and design, and public consultation.
- Possess experience and a level of comfort with large scale multi-discipline buildings projects, such as new Hospital projects with surface-level and rooftop heliport construction, and facility commissioning and certification.
- Well-versed in all of the typical planning and design tools of the profession.
- Sound foundational knowledge in design and operation of airport and heliport facilities.
- Experience working on both international and domestic projects.
This position may require periodic travel within Canada and internationally. All candidates are expected to have a valid driver’s license.
