Description
Our client in the non-profit sector is seeking a purpose-driven, highly relational Business Development Specialist to engage responsible businesses and support long-term participation in a national sustainability and responsible business initiative.
In this role, you lead outreach and engagement efforts with businesses across multiple sectors, drive regional recruitment through structured pipeline management, and secure new participant organizations. You conduct prospect research, cold outreach, lead qualification, discovery meetings, and maintain an organized pipeline of prospective participants.
You report to a senior engagement leader. This role supports flexible hybrid or fully remote work arrangements, depending on location. Occasional in-person collaboration is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Participant Engagement and Business Development
- Research, identify, qualify, cultivate, and steward corporate participants to generate new business and deepen partnerships.
- Develop customized cultivation and solicitation strategies based on each company’s sustainability priorities, marketing interests, business context, and resource capacity.
- Track engagement activity and maintain accurate participant records using a CRM platform.
- Collaborate with internal programme and marketing teams to promote and deliver regionally relevant activities and events that engage prospective organizations.
- Represent the organization at local, national, and international conferences and events to build relationships and generate leads.
- Partner with global and regional teams to host joint events and explore collaborative recruitment opportunities.
- Work closely with marketing on activations, pitches, presentations, and events to support recruitment and retention.
- Leverage market trends and internal data to refine engagement strategies and enhance value propositions.
Sales and Relationship Management
- Build credibility and trust with key decision-makers across industries to move organizations through the recruitment pipeline.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of client needs and apply a consultative approach to support organizations along their sustainability journey.
- Engage participant organizations through regular touchpoints including calls, emails, and meetings while delivering high-quality customer service.
- Maintain an account management mindset to ensure long-term participant retention and satisfaction.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 3 or more years of experience in B2B sales, account management, corporate partnerships, or fundraising with a track record of meeting revenue or growth targets.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-focused mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple relationships and advance prospects through a structured pipeline.
- Proficiency in CRM tools and project management platforms.
- High level of organizational skill and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent writing skills with ability to communicate persuasively to diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with experience using data to inform decisions.
- Written and verbal fluency in English. Additional language skills are an asset.
Preferred
- Experience working in sustainability or environmental, social, and governance related fields in a B2B environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within hybrid or remote teams.
- Familiarity with international sustainability or responsible business initiatives.
