Description
The Corporate Health & Safety Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving Blue Moon Metals’ Health & Safety Management System across all projects and sites. The role provides corporate-level leadership, governance, and oversight, ensuring that health and safety systems, standards, and rules are consistently applied to both internal teams and contractors.
A central objective of this role is to drive the development of a strong and consistent safety culture, supporting leaders and teams to integrate health and safety into everyday decision-making and project execution. This is a hands-on corporate role, requiring strong field presence and the ability to influence without direct authority, translating corporate expectations into practical, effective site execution within a fast-growing mining company.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain the Company’s Health & Safety Management System in alignment with legislation, corporate standards, and industry best practice.
- Establish health and safety requirements, rules, and systems applicable to employees and contractors across all projects.
- Define and implement critical risk management frameworks, life-saving rules, and control verification processes.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and oversight to site teams in the application of health and safety systems and standards.
- Establish corporate frameworks for hazard identification, risk assessment, incident reporting, investigation, and corrective action.
- Monitor health and safety performance across projects using leading and lagging indicators, identifying trends and systemic risks.
- Lead or coordinate assurance activities, audits, and performance reviews to verify the effectiveness of health and safety systems.
- Develop and oversee health and safety training frameworks, including inductions, refresher training, and role-specific competencies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, and permit conditions.
- Establish and maintain corporate health and safety reporting systems and provide clear reporting to senior leadership and for ESG disclosures.
- Maintain a strong field presence, spending approximately 50% of time in the field, to support, mentor, and assess site teams.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of health and safety experience in the mining industry, including surface and underground environments.
- Demonstrated experience building or implementing health and safety systems in development-stage or project environments.
- Strong working knowledge of mining health and safety legislation and industry standards.
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
