THE OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a forward thinking and pragmatic leader to join our Calgary team as Director of People and Culture. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and the Managing Lawyer, this key leadership role is responsible for developing and executing a people strategy that supports our continued growth and evolving business priorities. This is an ideal role for a People and Culture leader ready to expand their scope beyond a single firm. You’ll help lead Litco LSO’s transition from a traditional law firm structure to a shared services model supporting multiple partner firms across provinces, states, and countries. It’s a unique chance to gain international exposure while building scalable, future-focused people practices across diverse legal jurisdictions.

This role will be instrumental in shaping culture through rapid growth, integrating new teams, and establishing consistent HR practices across regions. RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team, providing insight and guidance on organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, talent development, and cultural integration.
  • Build, implement, and evolve a scalable P&C infrastructure to support the company’s current operations and long-term expansion strategy.
  • Use data and KPIs to drive people decisions and report on key talent metrics to senior leadership.

Team Management & Development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing P&C team, including talent acquisition, P&C operations, learning and development, and employee experience.
  • Create clear team objectives and KPIs aligned with business outcomes.
  • Support P&C team members in transitioning to a shared services model and refining their roles to fit the organization’s evolving needs.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Oversee end-to-end recruitment strategy to attract top talent across Canada and the US, ensuring alignment with business unit needs and DEI goals.
  • Build pipelines for critical and future-ready roles, working closely with hiring managers to forecast talent gaps and staffing requirements.

Organizational Culture & Employee Experience

  • Champion Litco LSO’s culture and core values, ensuring they are embedded in all people-related processes and policies.
  • Lead change management and employee engagement initiatives, including integration efforts across acquired entities.
  • Partner with executive leadership on communications, engagement surveys, and cultural alignment.

Compensation, Benefits, and Total Rewards

  • Oversee payroll operations to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant processing across multiple jurisdictions, coordinating with finance and third-party providers to streamline systems, resolve discrepancies, and maintain payroll integrity during periods of organizational growth and change.
  • Lead compensation strategy and benchmarking, ensuring competitive and equitable pay practices.
  • Oversee benefits administration and evaluate opportunities for improved coverage and cost-efficiency.

P&C Operations, Policy & Compliance

  • Maintain up-to-date policies, procedures, and compliance with all provincial, state and federal employment laws (AB, NS, ON, OK, CA, TX, etc.).
  • Lead complex employee relations issues, investigations, and risk mitigation efforts with professionalism and discretion.
  • Ensure consistent documentation, employee files, and systems (e.g., BambooHR, payroll, etc.) are accurate, efficient, and secure.

Learning & Development

  • Design and implement learning and development frameworks for all levels of the organization, from onboarding to leadership development.
  • Support succession planning and leadership readiness through targeted programs and coaching.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of progressive HR or P&C experience, including at least 5 years in a senior HR or P&C leadership role within a growth-focused or multi-site organization.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian employment legislation (multi-jurisdictional preferred); US employment law is a strong asset.
  • Experience leading HR or P&C in a private equity-backed or M&A-intensive company is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; CHRP/CHRL or SHRM-SCP certification is an asset.
