Overview
The City Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and planning the daily dispatch of drivers and vehicles to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of goods or services within the GTA or regional area. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage dynamic transportation schedules while optimizing routes, loads, and resource utilization. This position requires effective customer relations and communication skills.
Key Responibilities
Communication & Cordination:
• Act as the main point of contact for truck drivers, relaying essential information about routes, schedules, and delivery instructions.
• Communicate with customers to schedule pickups and deliveries.
• Ensure drivers are updated on changes to routes, delays, or issues.
• Address any questions or concerns from drivers regarding their route or schedules.
Route Plannig & Scheduling:
• Plan and optimize delivery routes to minimize delays and fuel consumption.
• Schedule deliveries in a timely manner, ensuring that the right truck is assigned to the right route.
• Track traffic patterns, weather conditions, and road closures to help drivers avoid delays.
• Monitor and pre-plan the number of available trucks and drivers, adjusting assigments as necessary.
Monitoring & Tracking:
• Use GPS tracking systems and other technology to monitor the location andprogress of vehicles.
• Keep detailed logs of driver activities, including start and end times, milage, and cargo status.
• Resolve any issues that arise, such as delays or vehicle breakdowns, and find solutions quickly.
• Ensure that all deliveries are completed on time and customers are satisfed.
Compliance & Safety:
• Ensure that drivers comply with federal transportation regulations (e.g., Hours of ervice, safety standards).
• Keep track of drivers’ hours and rest periods to avoid violations.
Customer Service & Problem-Solving:
• Handle any customer complaints or issues related to delivery times, damaged gods, or scheduling conflicts.
• Provide excellent customer service by keeping clients updated on delivery status and addressing concerns.
• Work closely with the warehouse and logistics teams to ensure efficient loading and unloading.
Administrative & Reporting:
• Maintain records of dispatch activities, including daily logs, invoices, and any customr complaints or special requests.
• Prepare reports for management on fleet performance, deliver times, and customer satisfaction.
• Ensure that all dispatch records and ivoices are accurte and up-to-date.
Compensation
– $55,000-$75,000 dependent on experience related to the role
Qualifications
• 3–5 years in truking dispatch (LTL strongly preferred).
• Strong cmmunication and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with TMS system (TransPlus or similar), Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical midset with ability to act on data isights.
