Role Overview
- The EPIC Beaker Analyst is responsible for the design, implementation, configuration, testing, and support of the Epic Beaker Laboratory Information System (LIS) modules. This role ensures seamless integration between laboratory workflows and the overall hospital information ecosystem, including Beaker CP (Clinical Pathology) and Beaker AP (Anatomic Pathology)
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and maintain Epic Beaker modules (Beaker CP and/or AP) to support laboratory operations.
- Analyze and document laboratory workflows; translate requirements into Epic system specifications.
- Collaborate with pathologists, lab technicians, and clinical staff to optimize workflows.
- Build and maintain interfaces with analyzers, middleware, and other systems (e.g., Beaker–Instrument Manager, Beaker–PowerChart, Beaker–Radiant).
- Participate in system design, build, validation, testing, and upgrade cycles.
- Troubleshoot system issues, resolve incidents, and provide end-user support.
- Ensure data integrity, quality control, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, HIPAA).
- Develop and execute test scripts for application validation and regression testing.
- Train laboratory and clinical staff on Beaker functionality and workflows.
- Participate in 24×7 on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed.
Required Skills & Experience
- Epic Beaker certification (Clinical Pathology and/or Anatomic Pathology).
- 3–5 years of hands-on Epic Beaker implementation and support experience.
- Strong understanding of laboratory workflows, LIS concepts, and specimen lifecycle management.
- Familiarity with interface engines (e.g., Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, Mirth).
- Knowledge of HL7 messaging and instrument interfacing.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with other Epic modules (EpicCare Ambulatory, EpicCare Inpatient, Bridges, or Orders) is a plus.
