Operations Manager / Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Various locations across Canada

Salary: $150,000 – $180,000 CAD (depending on experience)

Skyline Recruitment is working with a fast-growing, multidisciplinary consulting firm that is currently seeking an Operations Manager / Senior Geotechnical Engineer to help lead and grow its Geotechnical Services division.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise and mentor a team of junior to senior staff across geotechnical projects
  • Oversee safety, technical quality, and efficiency of team deliverables
  • Provide strategic leadership to support technical growth and team development
  • Review technical reports and ensure alignment with company standards
  • Coordinate staffing, scheduling, equipment usage, and vacation planning

Financial & Operational Oversight

  • Prepare and monitor group budgets, utilization targets, and profitability metrics
  • Oversee contract document preparation and ensure alignment with internal standards
  • Track monthly performance and lead forecasting activities

Project Coordination

  • Develop work schedules, allocate resources, and assign team responsibilities
  • Act as a liaison between internal departments, clients, and regulatory bodies
  • Maintain and grow strong relationships with contractors and industry partners

Business Development

  • Engage in ongoing business development and client relationship management
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and professional associations
  • Identify opportunities for growth and strategic partnerships

Quality Control & Technical Excellence

  • Ensure consistent quality of deliverables across all project stages
  • Provide expert technical input on geotechnical assessments and investigations
  • Support staff development through mentoring and technical training
  • Offer regulatory guidance and ensure compliance with industry standards

Qualifications

  • University degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering (or related discipline)
  • 10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with demonstrated leadership and operations management
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligibility to register
  • Experience managing or working with a CCIL-certified lab (asset)
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical services as they relate to other disciplines such as Environmental and Building Sciences
  • Proven technical writing and report preparation skills
  • Business acumen with experience in budgeting, invoicing, and client engagement
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership capabilities
