Description
Reporting to the Director, Major Projects & Environmental Lead, the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Coordinator will assist the Health Safety and Environmental team by visiting GIP project sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
Primary Scope of Role
- Conduct site-specific daily inspections directly on construction sites, observing real-time operations to identify hazards.
- Serve as the primary health and safety representative on construction sites, maintaining a visible presence to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Attend, facilitate, and participate in weekly safety talks, project meetings, and client inspections.
- Provide field-specific recommendations for hazard mitigation, including engineering controls, administrative actions, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Lead incident investigations and preparation of incident reports.
- Act as a liaison between field operations and management, conveying safety concerns and recommendations.
- Provide support and administrative assistance, related to health, safety and environmental, to the project team.
- Responsible for maintaining and updating safety bulletin boards and developing other means of communication.
- Prepare weekly submittals to the Client/General Contractor, as needed.
- Engage with field workers, contractors, and supervisors to foster a culture of safety awareness.
- Monitor high-risk activities in the field, ensuring proper implementation of safety measures and immediately addressing unsafe practices.
Position Requirements
- Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in health and safety, or equivalent education and experience
- 1+ years experience as an administrative assistant or in a related role
- 1+ years construction experience in safety/environmental-related experience
- Comprehensive/working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and industry safety standards.
- Strong computer proficiency including MS Office, power point, excel and computer databases.
- Results-driven with an ability to deliver success in a fast-paced environment.
- Outcome focused, critical thinker with the ability to analyse and visualize to ensure continuous improvement across our business.
- Ability to connect and interact with people to seek different perspectives.
- Superb communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple competing priorities.
- Demonstrate versatility and resourcefulness in overcoming business challenges.
- Previous experience in the construction/infrastructure industry is required
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle
What We Offer
- Expected Base Salary: $55,000.00 – $67,000.00 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and work location.
