Description
Industrial Designer (Built Environment Products)
Red Rover Recruitment — Concord, ON (On-site)
Our client is an international designer and manufacturer of products that shape the modern built environment. They’re hiring an Industrial Designer to join a highly collaborative in-house product design team focused on creating refined, manufacturable, aesthetically disciplined products.
This is a design-first role — ideal for someone who is truly an industrial designer (not an engineer in disguise, not a marketing creative, and not a stylist). Junior designers are welcome if your fundamentals and portfolio are strong.
What you’ll do
- Design across seating, tables, casegoods, and line extensions
- Translate design briefs into well-resolved solutions through:
- sketch exploration + form studies
- iteration + refinement (proportion, ergonomics, detail)
- SolidWorks development (primary tool)
- models / mockups / prototypes as required
- Communicate design intent clearly through visuals, presentations, and prototypes
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Manufacturing through structured stage-gate reviews
- Design with manufacturing in mind: how it’s built, assembled, costed, and scaled — without compromising the aesthetic
What we’re looking for
Strong taste + strong fundamentals. You can defend your work using real industrial design logic — not just preference.
Portfolio must show (important)
- Process + iteration (not only final renders)
- Sketch exploration and refinement
- SolidWorks progression (not just the final image)
- Hard goods / manufacturable product work
- Models, prototypes, or build-thinking
Must-haves
- Degree or diploma in Industrial Design
- SolidWorks strength is required
- Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong sketching + communication + presentation skills
- Understanding of materials, ergonomics, and manufacturability
