The Center for Graduate Career Success seeks a part-time junior instructional designer for a limited-contract position (1 year, with the possibility of a 6-month extension).

Role Overview

We are seeking a part-time Instructional Designer to support the creation and refinement of our online learning content. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys transforming complex information into clear, engaging lessons and who thrives in a self-directed, detail-oriented environment.

You will work closely with existing content and subject-matter guidance to improve lesson quality, shorten and modernize slide decks, and develop new, targeted lessons to support graduate students in career exploration and job search.

Key Responsibilities

Content Updates & Optimization

  • Update and improve existing lesson slide decks for clarity, flow, and learner engagement
  • Break long lessons into shorter, more digestible modules
  • Ensure consistency in tone, formatting, and instructional structure across materials

New Lesson Development

  • Design new lessons on targeted topics related to job searching for graduate students and postdocs; career transitions and professional development
  • Translate outlines or rough concepts into polished instructional content
  • Apply adult learning principles and best practices for online education

Quality & Collaboration

  • Proofread and QA instructional materials with high attention to detail
  • Incorporate feedback efficiently and accurately
  • Manage tasks independently while meeting deadlines

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in instructional design, learning design, or curriculum development (3-5 years)
  • Strong slide design and content structuring skills (e.g., Canva, PowerPoint, Google Slides, or similar tools)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision
  • Strong written communication skills
