Intermediate Server Infrastructure Specialist

12 months contract

Overview

The Server Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for assisting in the implementation, management, and maintenance of both cloud and on-premises server infrastructure solutions within the organization’s IT environment. This role works closely with senior team members and cross-functional departments, including IT Operations, Security, and Development, to ensure the efficient use, reliability, and security of virtualized and cloud-based systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of Microsoft Windows and Exchange Servers in on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Manage server availability, disaster recovery, security, and failover configurations to ensure system resilience and continuity.
  • Perform system monitoring, patch management, and performance tuning using tools such as SCCM, SCOM, SolarWinds, or equivalent platforms.
  • Participate in the deployment and automation of operating systems using SCCM, Resolve, or other automation tools.
  • Assist in the administration of Azure and hybrid environments, including managing encryption, VM configuration, and Azure services.
  • Contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) initiatives using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Support Active Directory (AD), Group Policy (GPO), DNS, DHCP, and other core Windows infrastructure services.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain high levels of infrastructure security and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Manage and maintain backups and recovery processes for Microsoft Windows and Exchange workloads.
  • Assist in server migration initiatives from on-premises to Azure Cloud.
  • Participate in the setup and management of virtualization and load-balancing technologies, including VMware vSphere, F5 LTM/GTM, and NGINX Plus.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for issues related to Windows, Exchange, and Linux servers.
  • Maintain documentation of infrastructure processes, configurations, and standards.

Education & Certifications

  • University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • One or more of the following certifications (or equivalent) are required:
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft 365 Administrator
  • Equivalent Microsoft Azure or Hybrid Administrator certification(s)

Experience & Technical Skills

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience implementing and maintaining Microsoft Windows & Exchange Servers, including HA, DR, and security configurations.
  • 1+ years experience working with:
  • Windows Server 2022/2019 Datacenter and Exchange Server 2019/2016
  • BitLocker Encryption, AD, DC, GPO, Kerberos, NTLM, DFS, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS
  • SCCM or similar tools for patching and OS deployment
  • Azure Cloud and Azure VM encryption using CMK
  • VMware vSphere, networking, and security concepts related to server infrastructure
  • Linux OS administration and databases such as MSSQL or PostgreSQL
  • Load balancers such as F5 LTM/GTM or NGINX Plus
  • Experience with automation and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell).
  • Knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs) and storage technologies (SAN, iSCSI, NFS, HCI, Object Storage).
  • Experience implementing and managing backup/recovery solutions and performing migrations to Azure Cloud.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is an asset.
  • Experience with Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) and data center power distribution is an asset.
  • Experience in Microsoft vendor management preferred.
