Lake Law is hiring for a part-time legal assistant. Lake Law provides services to municipalities and developers on issues regarding planning and development, including civil litigation and appeals as well as a general civil litigation practice.

You will be working directly with Kathleen Elhatton-Lake, founder of Lake Law. This role offers an opportunity to work with Kathleen in building a new law firm.

The position is for 10 hours per week at this time– there is some flexibility in the scheduling of these hours but you must be available at least four days a week for at least two hours a day during normal business hours. This position is work from home but will require some in person meetings so you should be located in or around the Edmonton area.

Responsibilities:

·      Format, proofread and file documents with various levels of Court and Administrative Tribunals

·      Correspondence with other parties and counsel to coordinate and serve documents

·      Schedule and coordinate meetings and calls with clients

·      Intake information from new clients and prepare retainer letters

·      Document management – ensuring all documents are saved to the electronic file using a consistent naming protocol

·      Assist in managing file list and limitations

·      Assist in developing documentation, precedents and processes for new firm

·      Other administrative tasks as required

Requirements

·      Minimum two years experience as a legal assistant, with preference for a litigation role

·      Highly organized and detail oriented

·      Curious and willing to learn

·      Experience with filing Court documents

·      Strong Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook) and Adobe skills, must have experience using SharePoint

·      Experience with Clio is an asset

·      Fluency in English

Compensation:

·      $30-$40 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications
