Legal Claims Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide thoughtful and comprehensive coverage analysis on all new matters, serving as a resource to the underwriting team for policy wording and account reviews
  • Evaluate financial exposures using prior experience and collected information, negotiating appropriate and timely resolutions for claims across multiple jurisdictions
  • Partner with internal and external counsel to set and pursue effective, cost‑efficient litigation strategies for claims in litigation; participate in mediations and settlement discussions when required
  • Coordinate and manage communication with internal and external stakeholders, including Underwriting, brokers, reinsurers, and external vendors, ensuring professional and high‑quality customer service
  • Consult with Claims Management and Claims Legal on large or complex losses, ensuring appropriate action plans to achieve optimal claim outcomes
  • Maintain detailed file notes, reports, reserving, payments, and electronic diaries in accordance with best‑practice guidelines
  • Identify, monitor, and report on emerging industry trends, legislative changes, and issues affecting professional liability
  • Participate actively in new business and renewal meetings as needed
  • Support the development of educational materials and risk management initiatives for policyholders and agents, including delivering content through presentations and consultations
  • Report directly to the Claims Manager – Professional Canada

What You Will Bring

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Intermediate‑level experience handling litigation claims within Professional Lines
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; MBA or LLB preferred
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation preferred or currently in progress
  • Strong ethical standards with a proven commitment to collaboration and professionalism when working with clients, brokers, colleagues, and external partners
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence, present, and engage effectively with stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities, capable of working independently while maintaining initiative and focus on continuous improvement
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Teams, Outlook, Excel, and Word
