Legal Counsel/Litigator One of southeastern Ontario’s most innovative construction and development firms is seeking atalented and ambitious lawyer to take on the role and responsibilities as its Legal Counsel/Litigator.Based out of the historic and progressive city of Kingston, Ontario, our firm is on the leadingedge of design, property acquisition, and management processes and technological expertise.Our growing team of flourishing professionals is the ideal setting for an established andconfident young professional with exceptional litigation acumen, with powerfully compellingcommunication skills and a fierce desire for courtroom and boardroom success.The role of Legal Counsel/Litigator will see the successful candidate operate independently as thelegal ‘face’ of the company, but will have access to the resources, wisdom, and experience of anadjunct outside senior litigation specialist.This position can be viewed as a proving ground for a lawyer seeking upward mobility in thecorporate legal world, with a generous compensation package and broad range of litigatoryexperiences.What We Seek:- An individual with a comprehensive understanding of current commercial and corporatelaw, but who also possesses business acumen and a sense of our firm’s corporateculture and goals.- A boldly effective communicator, who can forcefully and successfully advocate for thefirm in the realms of negotiation, arbitration and litigation, but who can also effectivelydistill complex legal issues and risks with fellow staff and senior management.- Someone who is as comfortable in the boardroom as they are in a courtroom, before anadministrative body or tribunal.- An incisive, quick, and prodigious legal mind, with uncanny focus and attention to thesmallest details; someone who as adept with case law as they are with transactionaldocuments, contracts and policy dossiers.- Diligence, competitive fire, and the ability to build mutually beneficial relationships andcollaborate with in-house colleagues, outside counsel and other external parties.What You Bring to the Table:- Minimum of six years as a practicing lawyer, with at least five of those years involved incorporate litigation, preferably within the construction/development industry.- A potent understanding of the current legal environment, including all pertinent laws,regulations, codes and guidelines.- A demonstrated ability to draft, review and negotiate a wide array of legal documents,including contracts, patents, agreements, memoranda and internal corporate policies.- Sound judgement, an analytical mind and a high degree of professional ethics andintegrity.- A keen sense of the importance of internal risk management and regulatory compliance.- A demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships both withinand outside the firm which help advance the corporate goals and legal objectives of theorganization.
