Maintenance Chief Engineer / Operating Engineer

Our client, a leader in the Canadian cold storage and supply chain sector, is seeking a Maintenance Chief Engineer to oversee refrigeration, utility, and facility systems. Requirements – Maintenance Chief Engineer

  • Valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certificate (TSSA)
  • 3–5 years in refrigeration/cold storage, food plant, or related environment – in a a chief or supervisory engineering role
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems (ammonia, glycol, Freon), compressors, pumps, HVAC, and electrical controls
  • Experience with PLC, HMI, and automation systems (asset)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; maintenance software knowledge is an asset
  • Strong leadership, troubleshooting, and communication skills

Key Responsibilities – Maintenance Chief Engineer

  • Operate and maintain ammonia/Freon refrigeration, boilers, HVAC, cooling towers, air compressors, and related utilities
  • Supervise engineers and maintenance staff, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with TSSA and OHSA standards
  • Develop preventative/predictive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and optimize efficiency
  • Support upgrades, capital projects, and budget planning with technical expertise
  • Lead workplace safety initiatives and maintain compliance documentation
