Description
We are seeking an experienced Shift Manager (Superintendent) for major Marine Terminal client of ours in the Vancouver area. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations and Senior Manager of Maintenance and Engineering and working closely with the other Area Managers, the successful candidate will be responsible for all activities on site.
Responsibilities:
· Responsible for onsite maintenance and operational activities of the terminal related to the
handling of the Terminal’s bulk commodities, including aspects of labour relations and the direct
supervision of longshore and forepersons.
· 24/7 Operation. Primarily rotational shift work, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
· Oversees workforce planning and scheduling to ensure adequate staffing levels and appropriate skill sets are available for operations and maintenance needs.
· Responsible for ensuring Terminal operations objectives and metrics are achieved in support of growth, EBITDA performance, and customer relations.
· Shares responsibility for ensuring all personnel are aware of, and compliant with all regulations,
policies, procedures and standards, and that due diligence is maintained.
· Look for continuous improvement opportunities for operations and mechanical systems and work processes.
· Assists in managing the operational and maintenance budget by monitoring resource usage, controlling costs, and identifying areas for cost-saving improvements. This includes ensuring efficient allocation of labor, equipment, and materials while maintaining safety and operational standards.
Key Actions
·Coordinates last-mile rail service to ensure efficient and timely movement of bulk commodities. This includes managing rail scheduling, addressing any disruptions in service, and working with external partners to optimize rail logistics.
·Monitors maintenance and operational performance to ensure KPI’s and objectives for the Terminal are met. Responsible for the performance of unionized operations crews.
·Plays a key role in the training and development of forepersons.
·Shared responsibility to ensure daily plans and schedules are completed to facilitate all Terminal needs and are in line with terminal services agreements.
·Responsible for the coordination of activities between the Operations and Maintenance
Departments.
·Supports the Manager, Heath, Safety and Environment to ensure that the Company’s Health and
Safety Program and the comprehensive Site Contingency Plan are understood and followed in
the event of an incident.
Education and Credentials:
·An understanding of rail systems and cargo vessels is an asset.
·Experience in heavy industry and unionized environments is an asset.
·Minimum 3 years of experience in maintenance, preferably within a relevant or comparable industry or on-site experience.
·Minimum of five (5) years’ supervision experience in a unionized environment, supervising several trade disciplines.
·Post-Secondary Degree, Diploma or University or Technical School graduate with a mechanical
systems major would be an asset, but not a requirement.
