Payroll and Human Resources Specialist

About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Payroll and Human Resources Specialist to join a dynamic, growing organization. In this role, you will manage accurate, timely payroll processing, ensure compliance with multi-provincial legislation, and provide HR support that promotes a safe, inclusive, and positive workplace.
The ideal candidate is experienced with Canadian payroll systems, and well-versed in HR practices and occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Management
- Process accurate, timely payroll for employees across multiple provinces in compliance with CRA, Revenu Québec, and other provincial standards.
- Administer statutory deductions (CPP, EI, QPP, QPIP, EHT, WSIB, WCB, etc.), benefits, bonuses, and termination pay in accordance with legislation.
- Prepare and reconcile ROEs, T4s, RL-1s, and year-end reports; ensure timely remittances and audit readiness.
- Submit monthly payroll reports and accruals to the Finance team for reconciliation.
- Stay current on payroll legislation, minimum wage updates, and best practices.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required payroll documentation.
HR Support
- Provide day-to-day HR support to managers and employees.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding activities.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data in compliance with Canadian privacy laws.
- Support benefits administration, wellness initiatives, and employee engagement programs.
- Assist with performance management and HR policy implementation.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial labour laws (ESA, CNESST, etc.).
- Participate in policy reviews, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and organizational development programs.
Health & Safety
- Coordinate workplace inspections, incident reporting, and investigations in accordance with OHS regulations.
- Liaise with Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC) and external consultants.
- Prepare and translate HR and safety documentation as required.
Qualifications
Required
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in Canadian payroll and HR generalist roles.
- Strong understanding of employment standards, labour laws, and OHS legislation across Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, and BC.
- Proficiency in Canadian payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Ceridian).
- Experience managing multi-provincial payroll.
Preferred
- Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or CHRP designation.
- Conversational French
- Experience in bilingual or multicultural work environments.
- Exposure to HR projects and employee engagement initiatives.
