Our client is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds to support healthcare facilities by providing medical equipment, programs, and services. Operating independently from the government, it relies on donations and community fundraising to enhance healthcare quality.Reporting to the Executive Director, the Major Gift Officer is responsible for managing and developing donors and prospects to secure major gifts in support of the organization’s mission. Goal oriented, interested in building a career in major gift fundraising and committed to success, the candidate possesses great relationship building skills.Key ResponsibilitiesPersonally manage a portfolio of approximately 150 major gift donors and prospects for personal, face-to-face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.Achieve major gift activity levels and fundraising goals by sending letters, making phone calls and meeting potential donors in-person.Develop customized, compelling major gifts proposals and stewardship impact reportsIn collaboration with the Executive Director, work on a capital campaignActively engage and steward all donors in the portfolio through regular, thoughtful and strategic stewardship movesSupport fellow fundraising staff, participate in professional development and foster an environment of continuous learning and improvementYour CompetenciesStrong relationship building skillsConfidence and aptitude for verbal communication, including passionately communicating about the organization’s missionExceptional communications skills; a tactful and diplomatic communicator and strong writerHigh level of personal and professional integrity and commitment to ethical behaviourSelf-starter who takes initiative and always follows through on a commitmentAbility and interest in working in a high-performing, highly professional environmentGoal oriented, with a strong commitment to successDemonstrated ability to work well as a member of a teamAn organized individual with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, creativity and excellent time management abilitiesDemonstrated ability to meet deadlinesYOUR EXPERIENCEUniversity degree or post-secondary diploma5 years of experience working in non-profit sector, on major gift and fundraising initiativesProficiency with using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)Familiarity with database management desirable, though not requiredExperience running a capital campaign is adventitiousADDITIONALThe Major Gift Officer is a full time position, working mostly in the office. Meetings outside the office with donors and potential donors will be required, and participation at special events.
