Platform Engineer (Cloud and Data Platforms)
This is a Platform Engineering role. This position is not a DevOps role.
Location: Toronto
Physical Presence: 3 days mandatory in office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Duration; 6+ Months Contract
Role Overview
As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating standardized, reusable cloud platforms that enable data, analytics, and AI workloads at scale. This role focuses on platform architecture, infrastructure automation, and operational excellence rather than application delivery or DevOps ownership.
You will work closely with security, architecture, data, and engineering teams to ensure platform reliability, scalability, and compliance while enabling downstream teams to self-serve infrastructure and platform capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain cloud platform foundations using Infrastructure as Code, with a strong focus on Terraform based modular patterns.
- Engineer and operate Azure based platform services with a focus on reliability, security, scalability, and governance.
- Build and maintain standardized platform pipelines and automation frameworks to support infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Design and operate platform integrations for data and analytics services, including Databricks environments.
- Implement and manage API platform capabilities, including APIM and APIOps practices aligned to enterprise guardrails.
- Support platform operations by responding to infrastructure and platform related production issues and ensuring platform stability.
- Collaborate with security, risk, and architecture stakeholders to ensure platforms align with organizational standards and controls.
- Participate in backlog management, sprint planning, and delivery tracking using JIRA.
- Contribute to continuous platform improvement through documentation, automation, and technology evaluation.
Candidate Requirements (Must Have)
- 7 years of hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code at platform scale.
- 7 years of experience designing and operating Azure cloud infrastructure.
- 5 years of experience building and maintaining automation pipelines using Jenkins, Git based workflows, and scripting such as Groovy.
- 3 years of experience supporting Databricks or comparable data platform technologies.
- 5 years of experience working with API Management platforms and APIOps practices.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting AI or GenAI platform capabilities and operational models.
- Experience enabling data and analytics platforms used by multiple consuming teams.
- Platform automation experience using Python or similar scripting languages.
- Strong technical documentation and design communication skills.
Core Platform Engineering Skills
- Proven ability to build reusable, standardized platform components using modular IaC patterns.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills for platform level incidents.
- Experience designing platforms that support AI ops and data ops capabilities.
- Ability to work cross functionally with multiple stakeholder groups and facilitate technical discussions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes.
- A learning mindset and adaptability in a rapidly evolving technology environment.
- A collaborative team player who focuses on enablement, scale, and long term platform value.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
