Tekvaly is looking for a Portfolio Manager to join our client on contract to work remotely anywhere from Canada. Our client is a San Francisco Bay Area-based private equity firm with $1.2 billion of capital under management that pursues control investment opportunities primarily in North America. It focuses on lower- middle-market companies across a variety of industries, including business services, industrials, technology, consumer, and healthcare. Together with management teams, they drive sustainable growth in its portfolio companies by leveraging in-house operating partners and the Q Process, a proprietary and tested approach to value creation.
The Portfolio Manager will report to the Managing Director, Portfolio Operations – Technology. This role will be the primary engine driving the execution of technology value creation on plans across the Firm’s portfolio companies. Your mission is to operationalize the high-level technology strategies set by the Firm’s Operations Group Managing Director(s) and portfolio company leadership, ensuring that every project—from system migrations to infrastructure scaling—is delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with the Firm’s investment thesis. You will bridge the gap between strategic vision and “on-the-ground” implementation, allowing leadership to focus on long-term scaling and new acquisitions. Moderate travel may be required.
Responsibilities:
Project Execution on & PMO Oversight.
- Project Management: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of critical initiatives (e.g., ERP/CRM implementations, cloud migrations, and cybersecurity hardening).
- Resource Orchestration: Coordinate between portfolio company (PortCo) leadership, internal teams, and third-party vendors to ensure zero-bottleneck execution.
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with others.
Operational Excellence & Standardization.
- Process Optimization: Identify manual or inefficient workflows within PortCos and implement automated, scalable solutions.
- Technology Governance: Maintain standardized technology stacks across the portfolio to ensure system performance, ROI on tech spend, maintainability, and security compliance.
Requirements:
Experience & Background:
- Professional Experience: 5–7 years in Technology consulting (Big 4 preferred), Private Equity Operations, or a high-growth SaaS Operations role.
- Education: At minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Data Analytics, or a related field..
Hard Skills:
- Technical Breadth: Foundational understanding of enterprise architecture (Cloud, Data, Security) and core business systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, NetSuite).
- PM Tools: Advanced proficiency in project management software (e.g., Asana, Jira, Smartsheet).
- Data Fluency: Ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights using tools like Tableau or PowerBI.
Soft Skills:
- High Agency: A self-starter who proactively solves problems and doesn’t wait for a detailed roadmap to take action
- Professional Demeanor: The ability to influence and build credibility with PortCo management through technical competence and clear communication. The ability to work well with the Managing Director(s) of the Operations Group, the leadership of the PortCos, the internal team at the Firm, and with third-party vendors and consultants as required.
- Strong Communicator: Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in person and by e-mail, phone or video.
- Extreme Organization: The capacity to manage multiple workstreams across unrelated companies and ability to prioritize and execute accordingly.
