Job Title: Project Director (Commercial & Institutional Construction)

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Salary: $180,000 – $220,000 annually (based on experience)

Our client is a 100% employee‑owned national General Contractor with ICI and civil divisions in every major Canadian market. Their Edmonton ICI division is seeking a Project Director, a strategic operations leader responsible for guiding a team of Project Coordinators through Senior Project Managers.

In this role, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of healthcare, recreational, and educational projects. You will lead operational execution, portfolio financial performance, and continuous improvement initiatives while managing relationships with senior leadership and influential external stakeholders. What You’ll Do

  • Lead a diverse portfolio of commercial and institutional projects from planning through completion, ensuring alignment with strategic organizational goals.
  • Own portfolio financial performance, including forecasting, cash flow, risk management, and margin optimization across all assigned projects.
  • Drive operational excellence by developing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives that elevate project delivery, quality, and efficiency.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of up to seven project professionals (PCs, PMs, Senior PMs), fostering high performance and collaboration.
  • Oversee scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and risk mitigation, providing high‑level guidance on complex technical and contractual issues.
  • Lead contract strategy and administration across all major CCDC contract types (Lump Sum, CM, Design‑Build, IPD, etc.), ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and governance standards.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with senior leadership, clients, consultants, and influential external stakeholders, serving as the senior escalation point and ensuring strong communication and reporting.

What We are Looking For

  • 10–20+ years of progressive experience in commercial or institutional construction, including large‑scale project execution and team leadership.
  • Proven experience managing project portfolios with multiple complex contract types ranging from $100 million $200 million
  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including managing and mentoring teams of up to 7 Project to Senior Project Managers.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience overseeing budgets, forecasts, and project P&L performance.
  • Expertise in project delivery methodologies, scheduling, risk management, and operational improvement.
  • In‑depth experience with CCDC contract types (Lump Sum, CM, Design‑Build, IPD, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills, especially with senior executive and external strategic partners.
  • Experience developing and executing operational efficiency initiatives especially with the adoption of process and technology.
