Civil Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced Civil Project Manager to take full ownership of complex civil infrastructure projects, including deep excavations, underground utilities, and road construction. This role is responsible for managing projects from pre-construction through to final delivery, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and financial targets are consistently achieved.

This is a hands-on leadership position suited to a commercially minded project manager who thrives in fast-paced, field-driven environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead civil projects from tender handover through to completion
  • Manage budgets, cost controls, forecasting, and profitability
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, sequencing excavation, utility, and roadwork activities
  • Oversee procurement and subcontractor management, including negotiations and performance tracking
  • Coordinate field operations across superintendents, foremen, crews, and suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Manage underground utility coordination (water, sewer, storm, gas, electrical, telecom)
  • Identify, price, and negotiate change orders and extra work
  • Chair project meetings with clients, consultants, inspectors, and municipalities
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, reporting, and progress billings
  • Proactively manage project risks, including ground conditions, traffic control, and third-party constraints
  • Lead project close-out, deficiencies, and final handover

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years’ experience in civil construction project management
  • Proven background delivering excavation, shoring, underground utilities, and roadworks projects
  • Strong understanding of municipal infrastructure standards and permitting processes
  • Solid commercial and contractual knowledge (lump sum, unit rate, change management)
  • Confident leader with the ability to manage field teams and external stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making under pressure
  • Proficiency with scheduling, estimating, and document control software (e.g., MS Project, Bluebeam, HCSS, Excel)
  • Experience working in unionized environments is an asset
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
