Description
As a Reimbursement Specialist, you’ll be the point person helping patients and prescribers navigate public and private drug coverage so patients can access their therapy on time. You will complete and submit Special Authorization/Prior Authorization packages, advocate with payors, coordinate with pharmacies, and maintain meticulous documentation in our electronic systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on problem solving, follow‑through, and delivering a great experience to patients and healthcare stakeholders.
This position is a 3–6 month temporary contract with the potential to transition into a permanent role based on performance, business needs, and program requirements.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
- Complete PA/SA submissions end‑to‑end: Gather pertinent clinical/administrative data from charts; prepare accurate and complete insurer forms (public & private).
- Liaise & advocate with payors: Communicate proactively with provincial drug programs and private insurers to determine coverage options; pursue appeals where applicable; follow up until a decision is issued.
- Coordinate with pharmacies: Align drug coverage and dispensing; troubleshoot filling/billing issues to prevent gaps in therapy.
- Offer financial assistance pathways: Proactively identify and propose patient financial support options where appropriate.
- Serve as a program resource: Provide clear, courteous support to physicians, nurses, patients, clinics, and internal teams.
- Document with precision: Keep detailed, timely notes in the patient’s electronic chart/CRM; support data integrity checks and program reporting.
- Compliance & safety: Identify and report Adverse Events (AEs) according to program procedures and Health Canada pharmacovigilance expectations; follow privacy rules (e.g., PIPEDA); adhere to company policies, Quality Management System practices, and Health & Safety requirements.
- Continuous improvement: Participate in ongoing internal/external training and quality initiatives; complete other tasks as requested.
What You Bring (Requirements)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Canadian reimbursement navigation/advocacy within a patient support program (preferably chronic/specialty therapies requiring PA/SA).
- Coverage expertise: Strong understanding of provincial & private coverage criteria, SA/PA processes, and how to navigate payer portals.
- Systems & tools: Comfortable in a paperless environment; strong skills in Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe/PDF, CRM/database entry, web portals, VoIP/telephony, and web‑based meetings.
- Communication & autonomy: Excellent written/verbal communication; able to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Privacy & compliance: Working knowledge of PIPEDA; familiar with AE identification/reporting and documentation standards.
Education
- Post‑secondary education or equivalent combination of training and relevant experience.
Nice to Have
- Bilingual (English/French)—considered a strong asset and may be required depending on program or region.
- Prior experience with specific therapeutic areas (e.g., immunology) and/or appeals.
