Description
The Roof Designer is responsible for planning, preparing and developing the roof truss documents for residential construction. He/she is responsible to prepare or/and modify drawings, specifications, calculations, layouts on architectural/engineering plans for the fabrication of roof trusses in compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices.
DUTIES
· Design and complete layout of residential roof systems for pricing and manufacturing using MiTek and other design/drafting software. Providing layouts for both quote and permit documentation.
· Collaborate with Drafting team, Engineer and Architect to produce accurate designs that are cost-effective and fit within manufacturing parameters. Review and optimize designs for most efficient use of resources
· Work closely with the floor joist designer to juggle multiple priorities while maintaining workflow between departments from quote stage to production stage.
· Check the final documents for accuracy in compliance with contract documents and design intent. Prepare CAD diagrams and detailed roof truss layouts for production.
· Manage document control of all roof related documents between multiple departments.
· Monitor progress of projects and their conformance to design and construction schedules
· Prepare modification work orders/truss repairs and work with plant and field personnel to achieve their completion.
· Provide feedback and advice regarding the roof truss design aspects of company projects to management.
· Perform site visits and additional duties as required.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Diploma in architectural, civil, or construction engineering technology program or comparable course.
2. Minimum of three years as a roof truss designer specializing in residential construction.
3. Minimum 3 years experience with Mitek software used in the design of trusses and the creation of layouts for residential/multi-family construction.
4. Solid knowledge of truss production, building code requirements, load design requirements and government regulation.
5. Demonstrated the ability to read and understand blueprints, both residential and commercial.
6. Demonstrated mathematical skills required to calculate concentrated and uniform loads.
7. Working knowledge of roof systems and the ability to spec out beams and hangers.
8. Demonstrates basic project management skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time is required, arm and finger dexterity required to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment. The work takes place in an office environment with periodic site inspections (as required).
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
