Description
A leading hazardous materials management company based in Sherbrooke, Quebec is seeking an Senior Environmental Chemist to join their field operations team. This is a fully onsite position supporting industrial and institutional clients across the region.
The Role
The selected candidate will act as the technical lead for chemical identification, sorting, and compliant lab pack operations in the field. This person will guide a small team of technicians, ensure safe and efficient workflows, validate regulatory documentation, and provide subject-matter expertise on hazardous materials management. The position includes both field work and office-based regulatory and technical follow-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead onsite chemical identification, sorting, and consolidation according to WHMIS, TDG, and provincial regulatory standards.
- Supervise or assist field teams during lab pack activities, ensuring operational safety and compliance.
- Prepare, review, and validate all required regulatory documents, including manifests, labels, and bills of lading.
- Conduct technical inspections and respond to special or non-conforming situations, including unknown or unstable products.
- Provide technical support and ongoing training to employees to support continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related discipline, with active membership in the Ordre des chimistes du Québec (OCQ).
- Minimum of 2 years of practical lab packing or hazardous materials management experience.
- Strong working knowledge of WHMIS, TDG regulations, and chemical hazard classifications.
- Demonstrated autonomy, sound professional judgement, and ability to adapt to field variability.
- Comfortable working outdoors and in diverse industrial environments.
