Description

Position Overview

Our client, an integrated engineering and project development group advancing a major potash asset in the United States, is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to lead environmental planning, permitting, and sustainability efforts from project inception through completion.

This is a high-impact, long-term role offering significant autonomy. The successful candidate will act as a technical lead and trusted advisor, responsible for shaping the project’s environmental direction — from feasibility and permitting through design, construction, and reclamation. You’ll have the opportunity to make practical, sustainable decisions that influence how a world-class mining project is designed and delivered.

Based in downtown Vancouver, this position offers flexibility to join as either a full-time employee or independent contractor, with occasional travel to the project site in Utah.

Further Responsibilities Include the Following

  • Lead environmental planning, permitting, and compliance initiatives across all project phases.
  • Develop and implement environmental management, monitoring, and sustainability plans.
  • Guide and review environmental baseline studies, impact assessments, and reclamation strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, hydrogeology, and geoscience teams to embed environmental considerations in project design.
  • Prepare technical documentation and permitting submissions at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Liaise with consultants and regulatory agencies to ensure timely approvals and adherence to compliance obligations.
  • Identify and manage environmental risks, ensuring best practices in water, air, and land stewardship.
  • Conduct or oversee site visits as needed to validate environmental data and field performance.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement of environmental performance and sustainability outcomes.

Ideal Candidate Requirements

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Professional environmental designation such as P.Eng, P.Geo, P.Ag, or R.P.Bio (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in environmental management, permitting, and compliance for mining or large-scale industrial projects.
  • Strong technical grounding in environmental impact assessments, baseline studies, and reclamation planning.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing environmental management systems.
  • Familiarity with U.S. environmental permitting processes or cross-border project experience is an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams independently while maintaining collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to the project site in Utah.

Why This Opportunity

  • Play a lead role from feasibility through completion on a flagship North American mining project.
  • Shape environmental and sustainability outcomes with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Hybrid structure with a downtown Vancouver base.
  • Flexibility to join as either a full-time employee or independent contractor.
  • Competitive compensation aligned with project phase and seniority.
  • Opportunity for long-term professional growth as the project advances into construction and operation.
